| Plot Overview | This story begins with an ordinary high school girl, named Youko Nakajima, who has earned herself the reputation of being "a good girl", a girl who strives to be liked by all or at least hated by none. In her class, there is another girl, Sugimoto, who is unpopular and a misfit with all of her other classmates because of her unique interest in fantasy worlds and novels. One day, a mysterious figure appears in school and wants to take Youko as the emperess of his land. Soon thereafter, the school comes under attack by other mythical monsters and not before long, they find themselves in the middle of a heated battle. As they escape from the battle and before they know it, they are whisked away into the fantasy world of the twelve kingdoms. |

| Personal Thoughts/Opinions | This is a very good, yet often overlooked series. It has has a very deep, complex story and the world that is created also fits together very well for such a complex world. I will admit that the first few episodes will throw lots of information at you, but once you get all of it down, you will begin to enjoy it. The music isn't bad, fitting a somewhat ancient chinese style music and the characters are well crafted and develop very well throughout the anime, especially Youko, who becomes a much more rounded person. This series also has a lot of room for sequels since the world is rather massive because not every kingdom was even explored through the 45 episodes. This brings me to my complaint: the anime ends rather abruptly. Like some other anime, this one is told in major story arcs. The final arc that ended the series is not nearly as good as some of the middle arcs. |
