This is also a reasonably popular anime. The story features a young male protagonist, named Himura Kenshin, who is otherwise known as Battosai the Manslayer during the recently ended, revolution era. Despite his past of being a manslayer, he has changed his ways and has swore an oath not to kill. Very early in the series, he meets up with Karou, who is a teacher of the Kamiya Kasshin Style, which is a style of sword fighting that helps people over harming people. Being a wanderer, he ends up being a freeloader at Karou's place. Soon after, he rescues a young boy named Myojin Yahiko from a mafia group, who becomes of the group and learns sword fighting under Karou's recently deserted Dojo. Later on, a former Fighter-for-hire, Sagara Sanosuke, joins after being defeated by Kenshin in a duel. The group goes on to tackle new problems that spring up in the infant years of the Meiji Era.

I actually had the manga for this one, and it's quite good. You may have noticed a lot of genres in this particular series, but all of them do apply in some way. The story is great for the first two major arcs. But the final arc was more or less just filler, so it's a great beginning and middle, but a very weak end, in terms of plot, which is probably my main complaint with this. The characters are quite round in their design, since, with a relatively small main cast, this is expected. The music isn't nearly as good as some of the others, but it's still not bad to the point that it detracts from the anime.
