| Plot Overview | Since I couldn't follow it close enough, here's ANN's short plot summary:
Lain Iwakura appears to be an ordinary girl, with almost no experience with computers. Yet the sudden suicide of a schoolmate, and a number of strange occurrences, conspire to pull Lain into the world of the Wired, where she gradually learns that nothing is what it seems to be... not even Lain herself.

| Thoughts/Opinions | This stuff is freaky. Like, I know it's Science Fiction genre predominately, but Horror is quite a large part of it (with the freaky faces and random people show up from nowhere. There's the "FEAR girl" in that last picture above). The plot flew over my head, so I couldn't give you my synopsis of a plot, But I'd have to say, there wasn't as much of a plot as there was a string of thoughts. Most of the time, you are asking yourself, one of three questions: 1)What the hell just happened? 2)What the hell's going on? 3)What the hell is going to happen to him/her? I will admit, if you can keep all of it, (I kept a small amount of it) it makes for some interesting questions about god and life and the distinction of the two from real life and a virtual world. It's a thinking anime. In this respect, it is VERY thought provoking. You will genuinely begin to wonder the same questions the protagonists asks too. As for the more mechanical aspects about it, the Story, at least in my opinion, is hard to keep up with. The Characters aren't all that likable, since there's only one for the most part, the others just come and go depending on the event. What she thinks about and what the anime makes you think about is some deep stuff though. The music is nearly non-existent, so there's not much of a soundtrack here. The dialogue is rather sparse at times, especially in the beginning. Everything looks like an hallucination, which, while fitting of the anime, can get annoying sometimes. The version I have sucks, and the OP only plays in the first and last episode, and I didn't see any EDs, so I can't comment on that. But overall, if you think you can hold everything that's going on, I'm sure it will prove to be a very thought-provoking series. |
