The story revolves around a male who wakes up to the care of the granddaughter of a village elder and physician, Eruruu. Suffering from amnesia, he fails to recall any knowledge of his past. When he recovers, the village (which is populated by people with peculiar ears, not to mention women with peculiar tails) decides to give him a new name: Hakouro, the name of Eruruu and her younger sister, Aruruu's father. As the story progresses, Hakouro leads the village to defeat Mutikapa, the forest guardian who went berserk, and later to overthrow the oppressive emperor of the land, and subsequently, becomes the new emperor of the land, leading the country through even tougher times to come.

Personal Thoughts/Opinions
My biggest complaint with the anime would probably have to be the ending, which wasn't all that bad, but I wish it could have been a bit better. The other complaint would be that music is rather sparse during the actual anime, but the sound effects from the action (once it gets going), will quickly make you forget that, as the action is pretty good. Also, I personally loved the Opening theme to the anime; probably my favorite Opening Theme. The story is deep and the characters will attach themselves to you quickly, and will stay attached as they continue to grow throughout the series.
